New year celebrations in India

According to Christian tradition all across the world, the new year is observed on 1st January every year. At the new year eve, people do party until late night with family and friends as they believe that new year is the best time to spend quality time with loved ones.

On the occasion of the new year, people search online happy new year status and send to loved ones. Indians celebrate this special day as per the Hindu Lunar calendar. In India, the new year is celebrated at a different time different places. All over India, the new year has various names at various places. The new year names in India such as Ugadi, Gudipadwa, Vishu, Puthandu, Poela boisakh, Bihu, Baisakhi etc. These different new years in India reflects the various culture where several programmes are organized in every region to start the new year.

New Year of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka

Ugadi is the Telugu new year celebrated in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka states of India every year on the first day of Chaitra month. According to the Gregorian calendar, Ugadi is celebrated in the month of March or April. On the same day, sindhi people also celebrate their new year. To celebrate, this day people buy new clothes and make their traditional food at home and distribute sweets to relatives friends and wish them a happy new year.

New Year Day in Punjab

Baisakhi is the New year celebrated in Punjab, it is celebrated during the harvesting time. This is considered to be the biggest harvest festival in North India. Baisakhi is celebrated on 13th or 14th April. On this day people visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar and welcome the new year in their life.

New Year Day in Assam

Bihu is the new year celebrated in the Assam state of India, it is celebrated in the middle of the April which is also the beginning of the season in the state. People share the new year happiness with friends and family, they believe that this is the time of faith, belief, and ritual.

New Year Day in Kerala

Vishu is the New year celebrate in Kerala, it is celebrated on the 14th April every year. On this day people go shopping and decorate their houses and perform their traditional dance and give best wishes to everyone.

New Year Day in Maharashtra and Konkan

Gudi Padwa is a new year Year celebrate by Maharashtrians and konakanis. It is celebrated on the first day of Chaitra. People start this special day with the purchase of new clothes and decorate the entire house with flowers and lights. They tied a yellow cloth to a long bamboo and copper pot placed inverted on the bamboo stick with sugar garland.
